Motorola vs. Microsoft Heats Up, Possible Xbox 360 Ban in US

Written by Austin Griffith

The recent court trial between cell phone giant Motorola and gaming god Microsoft has heated up, as a federal judge is requesting the ban of all Xbox 360 sales in the United States.

Yeah, he went there.

Judge David Shaw is claiming Microsoft infringed on four video codec patents owned by Motorola and has requested the International Trade Commission to send out cease and desist orders for a ban on the 250 GB Slim model Xbox 360’s. It was also recommended that Microsoft pay bond equal to 7% of the unsold Xbox 360’s, with Microsoft requesting 2.5% and Motorola requesting the full 100%.

But what does this mean for Microsoft? The Xbox 360 being banned could have huge backlash on the consoles current reign on the industry, with it being the best selling console for over a year straight. If the Xbox was in fact banned, Sony would have a great opportunity to pull ahead, with the inevitable reveals coming at E3. This would also put a very large monkey wrench into Microsoft’s upcoming E3 schedule, which, by what Adam Shear is predicting, will be pretty huge.

Only time will tell what the outcome of this case is, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated right here as soon as it happens.
