What’s worse demons or monsters? Find out in Outlast

Written by Barry Villatoro

What’s more nerve racking, demons or monsters? In Outlast, you play as journalist Miles Upshur, as he acts on a tip about Murkoff Asylum. What he finds there may me one in the same. Murkoff Asylum was at one time, just that, an asylum for the loonies. Now it’s a charity, I know right?

Outlast is the first title of a newly formed independent studio Red Barrels, founded by devs that have previously worked on titles such as Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, Uncharted and Prince of Persia. The new team at Red Barrels doesn’t want you to face mindless creatures you can out-think, they have you running from creatures that can out-think you. As co-founder of Red Barrels, Philippe Morin said,

“There are already a lot of great games out there about terrifying monsters that eat brains; we want Outlast’s to be scary because you’ll know the enemies you face still have them.”

Outlast will be coming to PCs digitally in 2013.

The Q and A below was taken from the Red Barrels website.

Q. Is the trailer a pre-rendered cutscene?
A. The trailer is a real-time sequence done in the Unreal Engine. It is highly scripted to better showcase what the finale game will be.
