Skyrim to get it’s First Patch

Written by Barry Villatoro

Apparently the players of Skyrim on the PS3 have been having some problems. Players were experiencing severe lag after prolonged play of Skyrim on the PS3. After save data hit the 9MB mark, the game would slow down so much that it would eventually become unplayable.

Texture problems have been cited by Xbox 360 players, no word on if this patch will fix these problems as well.

“PS3 and 360 updates have been submitted for certification. PC coming too. Current estimate is they will be live the week after Thanksgiving,” said Bethesda’s Pete Hines.

“On the list for this update is improved performance for long-term play on PS3.”

The PS3 patch should go live next week.

  • Thaaaankfully…. I started to feel like I was playing Elder Scrolls < 3 on my PS3. I'm waiting as fast as I can for this update…

Here's a few examples of the problem for me… you bring up a dialogue with another character…. go to select something like "lets trade items"…or any of the options… then nothing happens… wait, hit the button again and it works. Then I'm like changing and charging controllers feverishly. Nope. The other problem is when you the button to bring up your Magic/Inventory/Map/Skills screen… There's a nasty lag there too, which becomes annoying esp in battles… :O

  • I noticed some issues on Xbox version. It’s typical memory leak issues. The longer you play, the longer the leak, the more the issues. I find a reboot of my system here n there fixed issues.

It’s an amazing game. Possibly the best game I have ever played. Even though I had issues, I completely ignored them as the game is fresh out of the box and these issues will be fixed.

If you haven’t played Skyrim, and you like RPGs… you need to pick this game up.
