Before you go wild with excitement and joy remember this is only a speculated rumor. According to a source Microsoft is planning to get rid of the current Microsoft Points system used for purchasing content across the variety of Microsoft’s digital store fronts. The notorious points system has drawn criticism since its inception. Points are hard to find in the specific increments in which items are priced. The conversion rate is also difficult to keep track of. (80 MSP= 1 US dollar) Many thought they would never see the death of the points system, but with Windows Phone 7 (WP7) lagging behind the competition it seems like change is coming across the board. While points are currently the only method of currency in both the Xbox Live and Zune marketplaces, users of WP7 can make app purchases using regular dollar amounts. Points can be used for in game purchases on the WP7 platform. While Microsoft has taken a usual “no comment on rumors or speculation”, rumor has it mobile phone app makers have been told to plan their up coming downloadable content and in game purchases with the new system. Stay tuned for any future updates regarding the status of the Microsoft Points System.
