No Amy, You Are The Zombie

Written by Chris Lock

Amy is shaping up to be a survival horror game like none other. Imagine you are trapped by ravenous monsters who want to kill you. Normally the best thing to do would be hunker down and try to stay out of sight until help arrives. But, what if you were also a zombie? No, this is not the next big internet fan-fiction, it is part of the plot of the upcoming game Amy.

In Amy you will play as a girl named Lana who is living a nightmare. A meteor has struck earth spreading a space plague that has caused all life, plants to dogs, to deform and mutate. Lana herself has been infected but by some miracle has not lost her mind. The “miracle” is named Amy, a quiet girl who somehow is not affected by the airborne disease and can even heal the infected when she is close. This means that you need to stay close and protect Amy at any cost because if you stay away too long you will end up as the walking dead. At first it sounds like one long escort mission, and in essence it is. However, the dynamic between her need for you and your need for her should keep things fresh and interesting. Plus you can just hide her in a locker, a much needed mechanic for all escort missions ever.

The most recently released video shows just how you can survive in Amy, with sticks. A bit of the combat was shown and it looks to be quite frightening. The camera seems to stick in close to you and make every encounter a potentially deadly one. It seems like combat in this game should be avoided at all costs especially since the player got kicked around a lot at the end of the video. It is really easy for horror games to make combat either super frustrating or super easy. Hopefully Amy can deliver the right kind of tension without making me want to pull my hair out.
