Scene It? Movie Night: Mega Movies – Some More Scene It? Some More Fun

I love movies. I love crushing people in movie trivia. Straight up, I love Scene It? games.

I love movies. I love crushing people in movie trivia. Straight up, I love Scene It? games. They’re so straightforward and so readily enjoyable. Not to say that they do anything necessarily amazing or new with new installments, but they’re always a delight. Now this newest installment has come as a downloadable “hub” game to XBLA and PSN. The Mega Movies is just one of many DLC packs coming.

Now if you’re a movie buff, or just enjoy movies in general, Scene It? is probably a game for you. To boil it down, it’s movie trivia. Much like the retail releases, Mega Movies is broken up into sections with each section focusing on a certain movie, genre, character, or theme like “Choose the actor the hints point to.” Not the exact wording but you get the idea. After a question is given, there’s a bar at the bottom of the screen that will start to dwindle. The longer you take to answer, the smaller the bars gets, the less points you get. Each answer corresponds to a button with each trigger used for buzzing in (if you enable “Buzz in”). Also if you picked up Scene It? LCA like me, your buzzers that came with it are usable in the is installment.

While playing Scene It? MM, I was pleased to see a lot of newer movies making their appearances. For instance, The Social Network and Tropic Thunder. Being that in some of the other Scene It?‘s I felt the majority of movies came from the 90’s. Maybe I’m wrong but it’s just what I perceived. You’ll still be asked to watch a clip of a movie and then be given a series of questions pertaining to the clip. MM also brings back some of your favorite trivia sections like the always entertaining “Pixel Flix” section where a movie is represented in 8-bit, as well as the “Invisible” where someone or something is missing from the picture and you have to answer what it is.

Nothing new is done visually and has been rather scaled down. After starting the game it goes right into your first question with little to no introduction. Although, that’s probably not much of what you’re looking for in a Scene It? game, what LCA did with the introductions to each section was a nice touch.

Scene It? MM does not come equipped with online capabilities and is still sticking to it’s guns of being a “family couch game”, my term. Which is fine because Scene It? games have become a holiday tradition for my family. After feasting at Thanksgiving or opening up presents on Christmas, we know it’s time for coffee and Scene It?. What else can I say, it’s another Scene It? game. It’s more movie trivia and it’s still fun.
