Review: 3D Realms Anthology – Part III For our third part of the 3D Realms Anthology Review, I sat down to play a number of platform and puzzle games featured in the collection. Some of them resemble a few games from part II, while others seemed to be aimed at the younger crowd with educational elements. 3D Realms really targeted a wide variety of game types when they put together this collection. Each group of games I play seem to play right into the different styles I...
“Gag Order” Halo’s fictional universe is vast and detailed, with stories filling in the gaps between the games and more. In the build up for the series’ next release, Halo 5: Guardians, Microsoft and 343 Industries has once again taken to viral advertising to fill in more of these gaps. This time, using audio diaries and images, we are invited to join fictional reporter Benjamin Giraud as he recounts the history of Halo’s hero: The Master Chief. Join us...
Following last night’s tease to “Stand By” Bethesda has finally released the first full trailer for the game, confirming its actual existence in the process. Check it out below: The trailer leaves us with vaults full of questions, but for now we can discern that it is another post-apocalyptic RPG experience, like its predecessors. Fallout 4 will be released on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4, and we are sure to hear and see more about it at E3 in a few...
It’s officially official, guys. After being basically confirmed a few months ago after an artists resume listed his latest project as a Fallout 4 E3 cinematic trailer, the world has slowly been dying to learn more. It looks like tomorrow is the day. The official Fallout, Skyrim, and Elder Scrolls websites have all begun redirecting to Fallout’s page, displaying an old-school “PLEASE STAND BY” television picture with a countdown timer ending at noon...
The Escapists has just launched on the PlayStation 4, following their original release on Steam’s Early Access (August 2014) and Xbox One (February 2015). Developed by Mouldy Toof Studios and Team17 Digital, The Escapists is a game about one thing: getting out of prison. The idea of a jailbreak may sound tough to begin with, but this top-down puzzler tasks you with mundane activities within the prison, all slowly building to your eventual escape. From trade quests...
Just a few days ahead of E3 2015, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics has graced us with another preview for their upcoming title “Rise of the Tomb Raider”, sequel to the 2013 franchise reboot. The CGI trailer showcases series protagonist Lara Croft scaling an icy mountain as it shakes apart, only to reach the entrance to a tomb in the rock. She lights a flare, and prepares to continue onward. Narrated by Camilla Luddington, who will reprise her voice acting role...
Players who purchased Halo: The Master Chief Collection and played before December 19th should have something nice waiting in their Xbox Live messages: a code to download the full Halo 3: ODST campaign on Xbox One. The download, which clocks in at 8.1gb, will allow players to play all of Halo 3: ODST’s single-player and co-op campaign. Halo 3: ODST has been fully ported in 60 FPS just like Halo 3. Unfortunately, firefight is not included in this download. Oddly, the...
David Harewood, the English actor best known for his roles in Blood Diamond and Homeland, has been rumored as the lead role for Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty, according to a vetted source close to the matter. Call of Duty operates on a three year cycle, which slates Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty for a holiday 2016 release. Harewood, who’s IMDB lists him as as currently doing work on “Grimsby,” certainly has the talent for the job...
“Phantoms” Halo’s fictional universe is vast and detailed, with stories filling in the gaps between the games and more. This time, using audio diaries and images, we are invited to join fictional reporter Benjamin Giraud as he recounts the history of Halo’s hero: The Master Chief. Join us...
Review: 3D Realms Anthology – Part II: After all those SHUMPs in Part I of my review of the 3D Realms Anthology, a change of genre was definitely welcome. For Part II, I decided to check out a selection of side-scrollers and adventure games. The side-scrollers I chose feature shooting mechanics, similar to Metroid or Metal Slug, and the adventure games are reminiscent of Zelda. You have to give 3D Realms a lot of credit for trying out so many different genres when growing...
