Netflix’s New Xbox 360 App is Sleek, and Fresh… Codenamed “Ryse”?

Written by Austin Griffith

Netflix’s new app was pushed out to Xbox 360 users today, bringing the ability to switch between different user profiles for family members, and a new sleek, streamlined queue. The new app is a huge improvement over Netflix’s old app, (remember the one where they took out the amazing party functionality?). The new app has something a little… strange, about it. Hitting the B button brings you to a menu where you can view device and account information. Heading down to the device information section, you’ll notice something a little odd. The software version is titled “Ryse-66” and the device model is “Xbox 360 Ryse”. I’ve done a little research, and there’s no documentation of an Xbox ever being codenamed Ryse. The only thing a search for that yields is the upcoming Xbox One game, Ryse: Son of Rome.

Could this be some sort of tie in between Ryse and Netflix? Possibly. Am I just grabbing at straws here? Most definitely. It’s worth keeping our eyes on, though.

Either way, boot up your Xbox 360 and download the new update for the premier Netflix viewing experience. We’ll keep our eyes on the internet and let you know if anything new pops up.

  • I also notice that the “My List” / “Instant Queue” is GONE, with this update (well, the “Ryse 101” version), but still shows up on the 3DS version, and the PC version. I can’t find any info mentioning why it’s gone on 360, or how to view it. However, when picking a show, you can still choose to put it on your list, if it’s not on it…or remove it, if it is. What the hell?

  • the search seems to only come up with the the ryse xbone game even called the company they told me nothing does any1 out there know why netflix did this

  • My 360 says the same thing and I found this very weird. This was the only info I could find about this. I have a launch model 250GB 360S. If you can find any info on this over time it’d be most appreciated.
