The Steamfeed: The latest scoop on this week’s Steam releases

Written by Raven Poplar

This week on The Steamfeed we have quite a lot of unique titles, including several indie games, a new F2P MMO experience, and even Levelsave reviews for some of the games!

Tiny & Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers

This game comes with a driven soundtrack by 13 indie artists, one of which (3typen, see below) even made a music video for the game. This is physics-based puzzle platforming at it’s best, with large environments and several unique skills to manipulate the environment with.

Tiny & Big, a comic styled jump and slice platformer, gives you the unique ability to shape a whole world at your will! You are Tiny, a nerdy inventor who tries to reclaim his most beloved possession: Grandpa’s white, fine rib underpants! On his journey through a forsaken desert he will meet mysterious creatures, no clowns, a taxi robot and his arch enemy: Big!

Roller Coaster Rampage

Looking like a cross between Roller Coaster Tycoon and an on-rails action title, this game takes the roller coaster building sim genre and flips it on it’s head. Featuring arcade-style gem collection, scoring system, and on-the-fly track building, this isn’t your average coaster game!

In previous games the coaster riding experience was a passive, non-interactive experience. Roller Coaster Rampage introduces an innovative approach, and a specialized procedural coaster engine that allows players to build coasters in real-time as they ride them. Players leave behind a trail of procedurally-generated coaster tracks and supports, which then become obstacles as the player circles back. While riding players can also dynamically connect to isolated track segments like loops, cobra rolls, bat wings, and barrel rolls. With these innovative game features and engine technology players can now build coasters while enjoying a fast paced, arcade style, roller coaster racing simulator.

SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny

A somewhat dated-looking RPG, this iteration of the SpellForce series is what they’re calling a stand-alone expansion. Our own Edward Torbicki has reviewed this game, so go check it out!

In times of war and chaos you will assume the role of a young man, who is supposed to liberate the entire world of Eo from the new, nameless evil. Along with a group of diverse heroes and a dragon as trustful companions, you will fight to gain information about this mysterious new enemy and thereby discover your own true destiny. With daring and courage you will be able to succeed in this brand new, epic, strategic RTS/PRG-Mix that combines the storylines of the previous Spellforce-games and continues further.

Fray

Unique in it’s vintage style, Fray is a simultaneous, turn-based, multiplayer, hex strategy game. Try to say that ten times fast, bet you can’t!

Set in a dystopian future in the year 2098 where human interaction is confined to virtual reality modules, three mega-corporations vie for control of Earth. Within the combat module, Fray, pledge allegiance to one of the corporations and take control of a squad of four soldiers from six classes with unique weapons and abilities. Choose your squad wisely, assign actions and when the turn timer is up, watch the action play out in real-time cinematic fashion.

Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013

You thought you had just unlocked every card and beaten every challenge in last year’s Duels of the Planeswalkers, eh? Well here’s the newest, best iteration of the perennial card game. Check out my review of it here!

In the latest version of this hit franchise, play with friends or the AI as you travel across fantastic planes, take on new encounters and opponents, solve challenging puzzles, and face up to three other players in the Planechase multiplayer format. After honing your skills, pit yourself against the ultimate villain of the Multiverse, the dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas.

Quantum Conundrum

In this Portal-esque physics based puzzle-platformer, you run around small arena-style rooms and try to solve each by switching dimensions in real-time so that the environment acts in different ways.

That sofa too heavy to move? There’s a dimension for that! Switch to Fluffy Dimension and that sofa is now light as a feather. Need to get up to a high ledge? There’s a dimension for that! Just switch to Anti-Gravity Dimension and things begin to float upward. Need to make things heavier? There’s a dimension for th—well, you get the idea. Switch dimensions in real time, work your way through the crazy complex mansion wings and rescue your uncle!

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav

Apparently The Dark Eye is a huge European pen-and-paper RPG, I wish I had heard of it before now! At any rate, Chains of Satinav has you adventuring through the land of.. Adventuria. I’m not making that up, but the game is authored by actual authors of the pen-and-paper franchise, and developed by the same gaming house that brought us A New Beginning and The Whispered World, so it’s got to be good.

In Andergast, whose inhabitants are considered to be notoriously superstitious, King Efferdan awaits a state visit from high-ranking dignitaries. For centuries the kingdom has been at odds with neighboring Nostria, but now first steps are being undertaken toward a lasting peace. But a plague of crows troubles the king, for the birds are acting with unusual aggressiveness, even attacking humans. Moreover, there are those among the citizens of Andergast who swear that the crows are bringing them dark nightmares.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes DLC

This DLC brings you, well, other famous DC superheroes to help you fight Gotham’s eternal tide of darkness. Just take my money now.

Legends Unite! The Dynamic Duo of Batman and Robin join other famous super heroes from the DC Universe including Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern to save Gotham City from destruction at the hands of the notorious villains Lex Luthor and the Joker.

Vindictus

Looking more like Darksiders or Neverdead than the fantasy settings we have come to expect when talking about free to play MMOs, this action-packed party-based has you taking on huge bosses with your friends.

In a world tarnished by battle and despair, the remnants of mankind cling to an ancient prophecy: One day, when all of humanity’s enemies are slain, the Goddess will return to bring them to a mystical land of paradise called Erinn. But the fight has waged for too long, and humanity is losing hope. It’s time for the brave to grab their weapons, carve a path outside their feeble fortifications, and bring the prophecy to pass.

Pro Cycling Manager Season 2012

The has the Manager series gone too far? Cycling enthusiasts say “NO!” and scoop up the latest version of Pro Cycling Manager in which you build a team of cyclinsts heading to the Tour de Fance. This iteration finally adds a realistic multiplayer system!

Prepare to live an iconic 2012 season by taking the lead of one of the 81 teams of the professional circuit. Real-time races, sponsors, riders’ contracts, training and equipment… It’s up to you to prove your worth as a manager, and lead your team to victory!

And that’s it for this week. Stick around and we’ll be reviewing one or two of these games in the coming few days!
