Rhythm Fighting Game, Kick Beat is coming to PS Vita

Written by Barry Villatoro

Are you over rhythm games? You may not want to see another because generally most of them are basic duplicates of each other with out anything extra added on. Well Kick Beat is hoping to offer something new as a character driven rhythm fighting game coming to the PS Vita. As Neil Sorens, Creative Director for Zen Studios put it, “Several years ago, we asked ourselves, ‘What would happen if we took a beat-matching game, replaced the abstract cues like bars, arrows, and button icons with kung fu fight scenes, and set it all to some incredibly intense music?’ We spent three years turning that idea into in Kickbeat, and anyone looking for something fresh and exciting in the music genre is in for a treat.”

The story goes that music has been stolen (yeah, talking to you torrent users) by a corporation which seeks to use music to control the world. You’ll play as Lee, a monk from the Order of the Melodic Fist and Mei, the leading lady in Kick Beat, as they fight to reclaim the stolen music.

The music being offered in Kick Beat ranges from Marilyn Manson to Shen Yi. There’s a gameplay video below of a Shen Yi track. Kick Beat will also allow you to import your own music library through the game’s music analyzer as well as offer an online vs mode. No exact date is set for Kick Beat yet, just that it’s expected to come out on 2013.
