Want to play one of the most surprisingly fantastic games of this year? Then stop lollygagging and go pick up Tomb Raider on Steam. Or, while you are there, just pick up every Tomb Raider for an extra $4. Yes, every Tomb Raider game (with the exception of Guardian of Light) for only $14. Damn it feels good to be a gamer.
Tomb Raider was one of those games that came out of left field for me. I had heard it was good, but I was woefully unprepared for its excellence. Maybe it is my soft spot for Metroidvania titles but Tomb Raider blew me out of the water. Exploration, combat, puzzles, just plain walking around was fun. There was a survivalist sense of “kill of be killed” that permeated nearly every second of combat. That feeling has only been captured again for me in The Last of Us, and even then only in brief moments.
I adored Tomb Raider and will be arguing in its favor during our Game of the Year debates. If you do not already own this game, pick it up now.
