Namco Tales Studio is No More

Written by Quaisha T

Namco Tales Studio may be lost but not forgotten.

Like most developer studios closing this year, Namco Tales Studio has suffered the same fate due to rising debt. Namco Bandai will dissolve the studio and probably send those workers to work on new Tales games. No, this is not the end of the Tales franchise as you might have expected.

Namco Tales Studio has released some of the greatest JRPGs that the Western folk knows. These wonderful masterpieces include Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Destiny and Tales of Vesperia. The studio has been opened since 1986 but Tales games has been around since 1994. I was 10 or 11 years old when the first Tales games – Tales of Phantasia came out and ported to the Playstation (now available on PSP).

I admit I have never played a Tales game even as much of a fan I am of Japanese culture and JRPGs. However, I will start with Tales of Vesperia available on the Xbox 360 and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World available on the Nintendo Wii then make my way to Tales of Graces F for PS3 (to be released Feb 2012) and Tales of Xillia PS3 (TBA).
