In a post on Mojang.com the future of Console Minecraft was clarified. Xbox One, PS4, and Vita will all release in August of this year.

Xbox One, will cost $19.99 unless you have already purchased the Xbox 360 version; in which case you can upgrade for $4.99. Your save will transfer up to the Xbox One version but not back again. Most, not all, of the DLC will transfer as well. You will not be able to play between the two platforms.

The Vita version is free to anyone who has already purchased the PS3 game. The saves will be transferable between the PS3 and Vita so you can mine on the john. The Vita has full online capability and all DLC will work with either copy. The game will cost $19.99 for anyone that has not already purchased the game and will be cross-buy.

The PS4 version is almost exactly the same as the Xbox One version. No cross play, not all DLC works, $4.99 upgrade, Bigger worlds, etc.

While a bigger world sounds great I think the Vita version is the one for me. I have already spent far too many hours on the iOS port and am excited about the addition of proper controls. I can already hear my wife banging on the bathroom door to ask if I am OK.

How about you? Are you grandfathered into one system or another? Do you think Minecraft’s Console worlds are big enough already? Would you buy a Vita just for this? Let us know in the comments.

  • I think PS3/PS4/Vita is the way to go. You get all three for pretty cheap and you will be able to have the best of both worlds with the Vita version and remote play of the PS4 version.

I only wish I could upgrade my 360 version to PS4 somehow but oh well.
