I Am Alive is Not Actually Dead

Written by Chris Lock

I AM ALIVE is well, alive. After the initial video released in 2008 showing what looked like a crazy game set after an earthquake, I AM ALIVE returns with a much different tone to it. The original teaser was more along the lines of just surviving a natural disaster while the newest footage seems more like a natural disaster has already occurred about a year ago. I looks like that because, well, it is that. According to the press release you play as an average Joe who was separated from his family in something called “The Event.” Finding your family is one of the main objectives as well as, you know, trying not to die, be it from enemies or starvation.

“We know people have been waiting for this game to arrive, and we believe it’s going to be worth the wait,” said Adam Novickas, Director of Marketing at Ubisoft. “I Am Alive presents a unique take on the post-apocalyptic, survival genre by creating more complex and emotional situations for the player. Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network are the perfect platforms to leverage the mature and challenging experiences of the game.”

From the videos and footage I am surprised that this game will be released on XBLA and PSN. It seems like a huge world both horizontally and vertically since you will be able to scale multiple buildings. Since it is a survival game I hope that it stays at least semi-open world because according to the press release the player will be tasked with “Stamina and resource management” as well as scavenging, which could be difficult if the game was too linear.
