Fable 3 is Free on the Xbox Live Marketplace Right Now

Written by Austin Griffith

Fable 3, Lionhead’s RPG Adventure, is free right now on the Xbox Live Marketplace. I’d assume it’s a glitch, so get on it now while it’s still available. If you don’t have the storage space, add it to your queue online so that you’ll have it purchased on your account.

If it doesn’t show up as free online here, go check on your Xbox’s Games on Demand Marketplace. If it doesn’t work on the console, make sure you’re trying to pay in Microsoft Points. That should fix it.

While I didn't think to take a picture before I "paid" the free price, I grabbed this while it was downloading.

This may be many of multiple things. This could be a glitch in the system, considering the same thing happened a few years back with Fable 2. This could also be Microsoft’s way of pushing back at Sony giving PlayStation Plus members a whole truckload of free AAA games, but this could also be a sign… a sign that maybe, just maybe, Microsoft is going to be announcing Fable 4 tomorrow for the Xbox One. It would make sense, really, to give out the previous game completely free to coincide with the announcement of Fable 4. Rope them in with the prequel, then get them to pay for the sequel.

Fable 4 would certainly make sense, it’s been quite a few years since Fable 3′s release, and Fable: Heroes and Fable: The Journey certainly weren’t more then snacks to keep us tided over for the feast of Fable 4.

Maybe Microsoft will release Fable 4 for free with the Xbox One, as somewhat of a system seller? Probably not, but we can hope. We can dream.

Only time will tell, really, but my hopes are that the third option is true. Fable has always been one of my favorite series, and a fourth one would not be anything to complain about. We’ll know in just under 12 hours from now when E3 kicks off, which we’ll be covering all out here on LevelSave.

  • Xbox announced at E3 that they have launched “Free with Gold.” Anyone with gold memberships can download 2 games free every month! (ones that they pick of course) They are also going to give away Assassin’s Creed 2 soon. Oh, and you mentioned Fable 4… work supposedly started on it a few months ago and ETA is 2014 (but this is an unconfirmed rumor – there was a teaser trailer released but it wasn’t said if it was a Fable remake or Fable 4). Sorry, it is not one of the games that will be released in November with Xbox One.

  • Still free downloading it as we speak. Also episode 1 of the walking dead arcade game is free to download.

  • Worked for me just 5 minutes ago but now it now shows up for my friend as $20. I GOT MINE HA

  • Confirmed working. Downloading as I type this. Adding to the que online through my PC did not working but signing onto Xbox Live through my Xbox did work directly.

  • It’s only for active gold memberships. I looked on all the accounts on my console.
