“Good news denizens of Pandora, the Hyperion corporation has added special growth hormones to the water systems, designed by our top scientists to enhance your inlaid abilities. The weak willed, afraid of change should avoid drinking the water. There is also a 13% chance that you will be transformed into a raging monster filled with hate and despair. Those weak willed, afraid of being transformed into a raging monster filled with hate and despair, should avoid drinking the water.”

So maybe that is not exactly what is going to happen in Borderlands 2, but I can imagine it going something like that, only funnier. When Gearbox will inject this funny line is still undetermined but chances are it will be the same time they implement an update bringing a higher level cap, which is happening. The funny line I wrote them might not, but there is for sure a level cap increase coming.

Associate producer James Lopez told OPM UK this-

We do have one planned, and it will be for quite a few levels which will allow you play for quite a bit longer. We also have a plan for Q1.

Mr. Lopez also made mention of the ShiFT program and its assistance in determining the “right time” to raise the level cap-

With Borderlands 1 we had to go by forum posts, and by checking out the number times certain achievements had been unlocked to really get an idea of where players were. But SHiFT allows us to see a lot more about the way players are playing the game, and see what they’re doing. We wanted to give people enough time to get at least one level 50 in there, and then see from there, how many people are doing this. Is this a good time for this? We also didn’t want to wait so long that people were no longer interested, or felt like it wasn’t coming.

The level cap change is planned for sometime in Q1 of this year but no concrete date has been revealed.

Are you excited about the increase? Is it too late for you to go back? What number do you think would be the perfect increase? Let us know in the comments.

After I the first DLC (and it’s insufferable secret bosses) I lost interest in playing. And with no raised level cap, I haven’t touched the next two DLC packs. I’m glad it’s finally coming though.
