Adam Shear’s E3 Predictions Part 2: Sony

Written by Adam Shear

I think out of all of the game companies, Sony is the one that looks to care most about games at this year’s E3.  With PlayStation 3 and the recently released PlayStation Vita, Sony has the opportunity to deliver games that will reach both systems.  I think from all of the announcements and rumors, it is safe to say that any game on PS3 that is not pushing the hardware to the limit will also make it onto PlayStation Vita.  I think the most innovative new titles of the show will be from Sony and on the PlayStation platforms.  Sony has already confirmed that 20 new games from them will be on display at E3.  I think Sony will really have some awesome surprises ahead, many of which are hard to predict.  Here below is what I am thinking Sony will show at E3.  I’ll start off by listing their biggest titles coming into E3 and go from there.

PlayStation 3:

  • Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
  • The Last of Us
  • PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale
  • LittleBigPlanet Karting
  • God of War: Ascension
  • The Last Guardian

PlayStation Vita:

  • Gravity Rush
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Sound Shapes
  • Warrior’s Lair
  • Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
  • Killzone

Extremely Likely:

  • First live gameplay demo of The Last of Us
  • Reveal of God of War Ascension single player
  • New character reveals for PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale
  • PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale will also release for PlayStation Vita with cross save
  • Release date for Sound Shapes will be announced
  • News regarding Ratchet and Clank’s 10th anniversary, could include new game announcement
  • New firmware update for PlayStation Vita to be revealed
  • Big 3rd party support for PS Vita, the biggest 3rd party title being Call of Duty

Somewhat Likely:

  • LittleBigPlanet Karting will also release for PlayStation Vita with cross save and cross compatibility with user made levels
  • New PS3 apps and/or firmware update

Extremely Unlikely:

  • Price drops on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita
  • The Last Guardian makes an appearance
  • News on PlayStation 4 (the next generation)

Are my predictions above right?  Find out by watching Sony’s E3 2012 press conference live on June 4th at 6:00 pm PST.  I don’t know whether or not Sony’s press conference will be airing on television, but Sony will have a livestream on their website.  If you cannot watch live, be sure to keep checking back on LevelSave and follow @LevelSave and @AdamShear on Twitter for live up to the minute updates.

  • Looking forward to some surprise announcments for the vita and ps3 as well as the last of us of course. Also interested to see if the rumors of partnering with a streaming is true

  • I think a price drop on the Vita would be a good choice. Will it happen? Who knows. I’d also love to have Battle Royale on my Vita.

    • A part of me is excited to see what the new console generation will be able to do, but as of right now I don’t really think we need a new generation yet.

      • I’m mostly curious to see if they’re going to go with the “always online” requirement and diskless systems. I’m hoping no to both… Would really kill the ability to take consoles to the cottage and whatnot.
