Steam Comes Down With a Case of the Haxors

Written by Chris Lock

Twas the season for hackers and all across the net, Bad guys were hacking the places your password was set. The firewall was up but to your despair, the hackers were past it and already there. The users were were smug with passwords in their heads, they trusted a service and had nothing to dread. And Gabe with his ‘kercheif and his pet Boa, had just settled down for another round of DoTA. When out in the forums there arose such a noise, he stopped playing DoTA and abandoned his boys. Away to the internet he flew in a flash, pulled out his ban hammer saying “I’ve got hackers to bash!”

Yes Steam, the much loved Valve run service, has been hacked. Several days ago the Steam forums were attacked but it seems it goes much further than that. While Steam is unlikely to go down for two months it just goes to show that any system can, and probably will, be hacked by somebody. The best defense is to keep an eye on your accounts, rotate passwords, and do your best to keep very little information on the internet.
