Nintendo to close Club Nintendo in all regions

Written by Austin Griffith

In the world of fictional hangouts and cool kid clubhouses, Club Nintendo was the last great online reward service in town. Offering players “coins” for registering their games, fans who racked up enough of the currency could redeem them for prizes both physical and digital including posters, t-shirts, digital games, and occasionally rare statues and other acclaimed prizes.

Recently, though, the Club N has begun to slow down its rewards to the point of disappointment, switching to mostly digital items in lieu of the exclusive physical items of yesteryears. It appears the conspiracy theorists who claimed it was winding down were right, as Nintendo has today announced that June 31st, 2015 will be the last day users can redeem coins for anything. They plan to add a large amount of downloadable 3DS and Wii U titles to the catalog in February as well as a small amount of exclusive physical rewards.

The official schedule of events for the club is as follows…

Club Nintendo program discontinuation schedule

1/20/2015

Products released after this date are not eligible for registration with Club Nintendo

3/31/2015

Last day to earn Coins, register products with Club Nintendo, and sign up for new Club Nintendo membership

6/30/2015

Last day to redeem Coins or access your account on the Club Nintendo website. Club Nintendo program shuts down at 11:59pm PT on 6/30/2015.

How many coins do you stand to lose when 11:59 PT hits? Let us know in the comments.
