Little Big Planet is Going Free to Play with Little Big Planet Hub

Little Big Planet is a series that I have spent countless hours with. I swindled the first one out of my local Wal-Mart’s hands about a week before release. My dad actually purchased the second one before me and lorded his trophies over my head. And I sunk more hours than I care to think about into Little Big Planet Vita, trying to create a customizable RPG engine. I have it about 60% done, but I have a family and real life things to do, but I digress.

During all of that time the community was plugging away, building over 8 million levels, as of this writing. Most of them are bomb survival trash, but a sizable chunk are phenomenal adventures and technical marvels. The developers did not just stand idly by and let the community grow bored either. There are hundreds of different costumes packs, news levels, and material packs all waiting for the enterprising creator to implement into their epics, for a price.

That is where Little Big Plant Hub comes in. The disc based versions of Little Big Planet have run their courses; everyone that wanted a copy probably already has one. Even thouse that maybe had no interest now have it because of Playstation Plus. So how do you breath new life into the games and the costume pack market at the same time? Repackage the first two games and give the creation tools to the masses for free aka Little Big Planet Hub.

That may sound cynical, at to a certain point it is, but the real message here is that everyone with a PS3 will now be able to tinker in Little Big Planet’s tools. If you find that you enjoy creating levels then you can purchase additional tools, materials, stickers, and costumes for remarkably cheap. If you do not feel like creating yourself then there are always the “Team Picks” which are the cream of the crop Little Big Planet levels. And if none of that tickles your fancy then there are 16 levels from both Little Big Planet 1 and 2 that you can enjoy.

All told this new wrapping is a great things for Little Big Planet. Tons of kids out there are going to get their hands on the creation tools and turn those 8 million levels into 16 million. Hopefully the influx of new customers buying costume packs is enough to keep this amalgamation aloft. The package is only for PS3 right now and it would be a shame to see Little Big Planet Hub die here. Just one humble request from me to the developers of Little Big Planet Hub; please let me buy all the materials, stickers, and costumes from Little Big Planet1 and 2? I have no desire to go through and collect all that stuff so just let me give you $10 and you give me all those materials. Thanks.
