Tomb Raiders “Guide to Survival” Shows Lara Croft is Ready for Action

Written by Austin Griffith

How did I just manage to miss these all these months? I’ve spent the better part of my day today watching and then rewatching the Tomb Raider “Guide to Survival” series of videos. They’re amazing – and they’re all below.

The first video details the basic gameplay you’ll find in Tomb Raider, including the climbing axe and the bow and arrow. What I played at PAX Prime in August of 2012 had me relying heavily on the Bow and Arrow to hunt deer, something I imagine will be a a core staple of the game – and I sure hope so, it’s fun as hell! The puzzles look pretty kick ass, too, because puzzles are one of my favorite gameplay types.

The second episode shows off the fast travel system as well as “Gear Gating”, a system which allows you to backtrack through the world using your newly obtained items. It seems like this game will have a lot more replayability then your average adventure game.

The third and final episode of Survival Guide shows us all about Lara’s combat system. It also looks like the environment will have night and day cycles, which is amazing. This game also has some pretty beautiful graphics, something I hadn’t noticed before. Stealth also comes into play, which is perfect for me. The environment also comes into play in the new Tomb Raider, with fire, air, and water playing huge parts into the combat and puzzle elements.

Tomb Raider Releases March 5th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. You can preorder it here.
