The Steamfeed: Less is More During the Steam Summer Sale

Written by Raven Poplar

So you, as a savvy reader, may have noticed that last week’s Steamfeed feature was missing. Don’t fret, we haven’t cancelled it, it’s just that during the week-long Summer Sale they, the glorious masters of the leading digital distribution platform, had no new releases. I assume they were devoting more resources to moving copies of Steam’s existing library rather than putting new things out in that mayhem, but that’s just conjecture.

This week, we have four properly new titles! Yes, less is more but the quality is high on this week’s releases.

Prototype 2

This genetic action-adventure has you busting heads in true third person action-adventure style. Following up the ridiculous carnage of 2009’s Prototype, this game is getting fairly good reviews.

As the game’s all-new infected protagonist, players will experience Sgt James Heller cutting a bloody swathe through the wastelands of post-viral New York Zero. Equipped with unparalleled new shapeshifting powers, players will gradually build a vast genetic arsenal of deadly new biological weapons and abilities as they hunt, kill and consume their way toward the ultimate goal – to kill…Alex…Mercer!

Kung Fu Strike – The Warrior’s Rise

This multiplayer, linear, 3D beat ’em up game focuses on hand to hand fighting action and building combos. This game brings to mind old-school classics like Renegade and Double Dragon. Let’s hope Kung Fu Strike can live up to expectations.

Taking its inspiration from ancient Chinese tales of revenge and retribution and then adding a dash of over-the-top martial arts and old school arcade fun, Kung Fu Strike features 28 stages of fast-paced combo-based fighting. Blend powerful punches, high kicks and perfectly timed blocks to pull off devastating combos, all thanks to a fluid combat system that turns brawling into an art form.

Resonance

This Maniac Mansion-style sci-fi point and click adventure has you controlling four characters in a bid to save the world, or at least acquire a massively destructive, cutting-edge weapon. Peace through superior firepower.. ?

The suspicions they harbor, the memories they guard, the connections they share – all will converge as these four ordinary people work together to prevent a potentially cataclysmic disaster.

Inversion

This latest installment of the duck-and-cover shooter subgenre has a little surprise mechanic thrown in: You can manipulate gravity to overcome your foes!

Take on the role of a young father and husband, Davis Russell, who finds himself thrust into war when his peaceful city is invaded by an unknown enemy. With his daughter missing and conventional weapons and tactics all but useless, this ordinary cop and his partner Leo Delgado will rise up to heed the call of duty, master the fundamental forces of gravity and save the world.

And that’s it, don’t forget to look to us for news and reviews of new games. Until next week!
