The newest 2D fighter IP, Skullgirls, now has a soundtrack for gamers on the go. For those who have had their ripped tracks (and who doesn’t) on their mp3 player for weeks, here’s a chance to give a little back to renowned composers Michiru Yamane (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Suikoden III and IV), Vincent Diamante (Flower), Blaine McGurty (Retro Remix Review) and Brenton Kossak. At $9.99 for 28 original tracks, this album is a bargain for those with a bent for video game compositions.
For anyone up on their video game history, you’ll know that eastern and western games a developed very separately, with barely any overlap. This soundtrack is special on that front as it is the first western-developed game which has a score composed by a Japanese artist.
Combining her trademark haunting, gothic melodies with jazz influences, Ms. Yamane’s soundtrack perfectly sets the mood for Skullgirls’ “dark deco” world.
The Skullgirls soundtrack is available on iTunes, CDBaby.com, and Amazon.com.
