Sesame Street Kinect is Awesome

Written by Chris Lock

At CES today Microsoft revealed a partnership that finally has me sold on Kinect, “Kinect Sesame Street TV.” What this is has still yet to be well defined but what we were shown at CES looks amazing. Remember when you were a kid and the shows would ask you to say or do something, then they would pause for you to do it? Well imagine if the shows knew whether you did that action or not and rewarded you accordingly. That is exactly what Kenect Sesame Street TV is. This has huge potential to teach children in a way that no children’s show has ever done before. On the stage we were shown one girl throwing coconuts into Grover’s box while he counted how many had been placed in said box. After that they were able to take a trip into Elmo’s world, which sort of looked like an acid trip but would have elated a child. Microsoft also announced a partnership with Disney and National Geographic that will fall under the same type of learning experience. Maybe I am reading too much into this too soon but this seems like a new future for child education.

The last big thing announced in the vein of teaching children with Kinect is “Project Columbia.” Not many details are known but Columbia is supposedly going to be a new way to tech children the joy of books. They will be able to be part of the story by interacting with it unique ways not possible before. Not only would this be great for children but it brings us just one step closer to the Holodeck as well. Having an interactive book that you can not only change but you can be a part of sounds like an amazing way to teach children.

I am excited, are you? Let us know in the comments.
