Jack Tretton, CEO and President of Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that on March 31st 2014, he will be stepping down from his position with in SCEA. Posting a message on the Playstation Blog, Mr Tretton released a short statement saying that “This is a result of a mutual agreement with SCEA, and I leave knowing that the PlayStation brand has never been stronger, PlayStation 4 momentum continues to accelerate, and the future will only get brighter for our gamers.”. Mr Tretton first started with SCEA in its infancy back in 1995, with him director as sales. Simply put, Jack Tretton was one of the major reasons why Playstation had been the dominant console brand in the late 90’s and 2000’s, not to mention being the face of Playstation period. This does come at a time when the Playstation 4 is doing well, with a lot of 3rd party support coming down the pike, as of this writing, no replacement has been announced, but we’ll update as we get more information. Here’s Jack Tretton’s statement below in full.
It is with mixed feelings that I inform you that I will be stepping down as President and CEO of SCEA effective March 31, 2014. This is a result of a mutual agreement with SCEA, and I leave knowing that the PlayStation brand has never been stronger, PlayStation 4 momentum continues to accelerate, and the future will only get brighter for our gamers.
