FEATURE – Nintendo Saves the Day Chronicles- Page 3

Written by Nelson Hernandez

Welcome to “Nintendo Saves the Day“. The series is about the latest glorious news from Nintendo. It won’t cover just the mundane stuff but innovative and exciting news and games only available via Nintendo products and networks.

The new series will soon also include my Nintendo Wish Lists, updated every time I purchase off the list or add a title to the list.

Now begins the next page in the Chronicles…

 Kingdom Hearts titles never fail…

The seventh installment in the Kingdom Hearts series is Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, the first 3DS KH title and to feature cameos by non-final fantasy characters or non-Disney characters. Since this game breaks some well known KH rules, I will forgive them on the “interesting” title of the game.

“Dream Drop Distance” refers to the new gauge called “Drop Gauge”, where in this preview is a magic spell that sends the main character barreling into monsters to close the distance.

The plot of the game will have connections to the last 4 games released and have several original worlds return in addition to new Disney-based worlds such as The Jungle Book, Dumbo and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The game will also be connected to KH3 that’s still in development.

The two main characters, Sora and Riku, will both be playable during the game. It will probably be so to use each specific abilities to defeat enemies and solve puzzles. Neku, the main character from the DS game And The World Ends With You, will be making a cameo.

The release date for Japan is Spring 2012.

Back for more Zelda on the Wii coming November 20 to North America!

To do this new entry of Zelda justice, everyone will need to have a Motionplus Wii Controller. Luckily for you, you have more than a month to save up $20 to get it. The new sword combat of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword uses the technology to give a precise and realistic gameplay. So don’t be cheap Gamers!

Skyward Sword doesn’t seem to stray too much from the vast environments for adventuring and puzzle-solving we got to know and love from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess therefore I’ll dive straight into the new features coming to the game. There are three interface options: Standard, Light and Pro.

  • “Standard” – A full Wii remote with contextual button information appears on-screen at all times.
  • “Light” – keeps button commands visible but removes the Wii remote display.
  • “Pro” – a display of vital information such as health, rupees, and stamina. It removes the button display from the screen.

Item upgrades are also a new feature to the franchise. Link will have to collect various items and head to a master of weaponry or item creation to make his weapons and items stronger. Other gameplay options were hinted such as having a boss rush mode and master quests. Read the full preview from IGN though the article typically spoils the beginning of the game.

It has been said that Skyward Sword will have up to 100 hours of gameplay. It would be the longest Zelda game so far. that’s not good for me though as I tend to only play a few hours of new games I get and then move on to the next one. I’ll explain my game hoarding another time…

Flying and Swimming Karts in Mario Kart 7 3DS

I’m actually looking forward to a new Mario Kart for the Wii or Wii U but getting this wouldn’t be so bad. Mario Kart 7 3DS features the ability to glide and swim using attachments and has a vehicle customization system. Oh Nintendo, Nintendo, how you made me so happy! The vehicle customization systems let’s players modify the kart (or motorcycle) body, tires or glider using spare parts which have to be unlocked.

Because players can now glide and swim, new tracks were made to utilize this feature. Some tracks include high gliding opportunities, underwear sections, and new awesome hazardous to look out for.

The game has support for Spotpass and Streetpass features and can have players go against each other in local wireless or online over a broadband connection. Up to 8 players will be supported for these battles using ghost data to compete.

There are also new power-ups, new modes and two new characters – Lakitu and Metal Mario. The new modes suggest that a player can race in first-person view and utilize a tricks systems similar to Mario Kart Wii. The greatness that is Mario Kart 7 on 3DS will be available December 4.

Super Mario Lands on the 3DS!

The last Super Mario variation I’ve played was Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros Wii. I am very curious as to what this title will bring to the 3DS. One can never get enough Mario…

Let’s review the awe that is Super Mario Land 3D:

Mario can now do a “crouching-tiger-hidden-dragon” move instead of the tired Ole crouch by simply rolling then busting out in a long jump. The power-ups and suits are back such as the star power, Raccoon suit, Yoshi’s air run, and Fire ball shooting.

The levels are traditional but are said to look way better in 3D. To end the level, simply jump on the age-old flag pole. Mario can also collect Star Tokens and Coins throughout the stages. To compare, the stages seem to have the graphical appearance and gameplay of Mario Galaxy and Mario 64. If you loved those games, you’ll love this. Though I personally never played Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64 but I have it on my Wii.

Expect the release date in North American on November 13, 2011.
