Want to be a Voice in Oddworld New ‘n’ Tasty?

When I was young my parents bought me Oddworld: Abe’s Exodus for Christmas. Being a dumb kid, I had no idea of the cultural significance the Oddworld series had at the time; I was just in it for the farting. Fast forward many years later and you find a teenage Chris that could actually beat the game. Even though by that time it was an ‘old’ game, I still loved the atmosphere, puzzles, characters, and farts. I never sold that copy, it sits alongside many of my other favorite games, in a box somewhere.

Fast forward even more years and the game developer Just Add Water has taken it upon themselves to not only re-release the Oddworld games, but to give them all a graphical overhaul and, hopefully, continue the series. Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath have both been let into the wild, and next up is Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, renamed to Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty. The first two games were the ‘easy’ ones, they were built in a 3D polygonal plane to begin with, but Oddysee was a sprite based game. Just Add Water has had their hands full recreating the entire game in full polygonal HD. The game looks glorious and I can not wait to dive back into that world.

Here is the really neat part though, the developers are calling on you. They have started a campaign to bring community voices into the game as Mudokons, the main species of the game. If your voice is chosen you will not only have those dulcet tones ‘Mudokonafied’ but your name will be in the credits. You can find out all the detailed information here but you will need some basic things first.

  • A Soundcloud Account
  • A sound card capable of recording a 24bit/96kHz file
  • An audio recorder – Audacity is free

I have already made my submission, which you can laugh at here, and you should too. New ‘n’ Tasty is set for release in Holiday 2013 for PS3, PS4, PSVita, Wii U, Windows, Linux, and OSX.
