UFC 2014 Announced At E3

Written by Karley Campbell

At EA’s E3 briefing today, we learned about an all new UFC game coming to Xbox One and Playstation 4 this spring. EA Sports Ignite, EA’s new engine for their sports franchises, is being used to create a completely new level of realism for the UFC franchise. Now boasting a new “MMAi” to once again make players more human. “Every licensed fighter in the game will have changing goals and fight plans, based on their real-life tendencies and each fight situation. Stop their Plan A, and they will adapt to Plan B or C. Down on the scorecards, look for the AI to end the fight with a knockout or a submission.” It comes down to basically being a scaling difficulty. The better you are, the better the AI opponent becomes.

UFC 14 boasts precision physics and more realistic exertion from the fighters, ranging from reddening skin and bruises to the signature flapping cheeks from that oh-so-stunning knock out blow. Gone are the days of the pop in and pop out of submission style of the past UFC games. Getting that beautiful submission  is no longer an easy task. The player will now have to work through multiple layers of ground work in order to get in and out of those submission attempts.

On EA’s site for the newest installment of the UFC game, they boast “Dynamic Striking.” It points to a dynamic environment where superman punches and more are possible. Let’s hope for the possibility to pull of the incredible “Kick Heard Round the World.”
