Rumor: Microsoft’s Next Xbox Codenamed ‘Durango’

Written by Austin Griffith

While the Nextbox 720 rumors are sure to be swirling the more time ticks on, the first big rumor has just squeacked it’s way out. Sources close to the Next Xbox are claiming Microsoft’s upcoming unannounced system will be codenamed Durango.

This could mean Durango, one of Mexico’s 31 states, or Durango, Colorado, the mountain city which might mean Microsoft’s new console is “rising above” the others.

This isn’t a very unusal codename considering Microsoft’s history of codenames based on cities, including Windows for Workgroups 3.1 codenamed Sparta, Windows 95 as Chicago, Internet Explorer 1.0 was O’Hare, Windows 98 was Memphis and Windows 7 was Vienna.

Even Kinect, originally codenamed Project Natal was named after a city in Brazil.

We’ll update if any more information becomes available, and as always, keep watching LevelSave for the latest in Xbox rumors.
