Last weekend at PAX East, I had the privilege of playing the upcoming Total War: Warhammer from the talents of both Creative Assembly and Games Workshop. Having never played a Warhammer game and barely having played a Total War, the game was pretty new to me. I was familiar with the massive scale of the Total War games, where players command thousands of units in a truly enormous battlefield, but I wasn’t quite familiar with Warhammer. I’ve seen a few friends play it...
Star Fox was a childhood pleasure of mine. I dabbled in the SNES version quite a bit, but Star Fox 64 was when things really clicked for me. I’ve enjoyed flight simulators since I was old enough to know what one was, and Star Fox was a welcome break from the more complicated games PC games like TIE Fighter or Freespace, and was a more welcoming game than its closer console counterpart, Rogue Squadron. Star Fox 64 was approachable because it was simple. You were on rails...
The team at LevelSave had the opportunity to get our hands on Mirrors Edge Catalyst this weekend at PAX East in Boston. While PC Editor Philip Paverd and Photographer Gevin Sweeney enjoyed their time with the game, I was less than impressed. Everything simply just felt to slow for my taste. Fighting, running, jumping, everything seemed bogged down. Even walking around when I was speaking was slightly too slow to be enjoyable. The section of the game we were given on the...
I got the chance to speak with Marc Clement from Skreens at PAX East in Boston over the weekend. We discussed the Skreens streaming box, a cool little HDMI pass through box that connects to the internet to allow you to not just switch between HDMI devices but also do use multiple in the same screen. It’s an extremely interesting concept that definitely has use in the gaming space. Unfortunately, Screens’ biggest drawback is it’s price point. As we discussed...

What excitement, what wonderment, what… the heck is even happening? Investment: PSP or Vita, Cost $15, Time to complete 30-40 Hours Jeanne D’Arc is a tactics game set in the early 1400’s during The Hundred Year War between France and England. The team at Level-5 has done the story of Jeanne quite a bit of respect. Many of the levels and major early events follow the actual history closely, if a bit stylized. And by stylized I mean that, while this setting...
You probably know one or two people who are fantastic storytellers. Perhaps a teacher, grandparent, or just a really creative friend. I certainty know a few, and often find myself inspired by their ability to take a topic and present it in a compelling way. I’ve aspired to be one myself, actually, and have taken great care to study what it takes to weave a narrative that will captivate an audience and inspire them to also explore their creativity. With that said, I...

Microsoft just dropped Gears of War 4’s first trailer on us during the MTV movies awards, and it’s a great start to the marketing. Judging from the video and website description, it looks like we’re witnessing the first moments after the attack on Marcus and JD’s village. Let’s break it down. The opening shot shows us flashes between JD running from an unknown enemy and then back to what we can assume was 20-25 years ago when JD was young...
