UPDATE: It has been announced that Executive VP and COO of Sony Computer Entertainment International (SCEI) Shawn Laydon will be replacing Jack Tretton as CEO of SCEA. Laydon has been with SCE for 14 years, working most recently as assistant to President of SNEI, John Kodera.

Jack Tretton, CEO and President of Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that on March 31st 2014, he will be stepping down from his position with in SCEA. Posting a message on the Playstation Blog, Mr Tretton released a short statement saying that “This is a result of a mutual agreement with SCEA, and I leave knowing that the PlayStation brand has never been stronger, PlayStation 4 momentum continues to accelerate, and the future will only get brighter for our gamers.”. Mr Tretton first started with SCEA in its infancy back in 1995, with him director as sales. Simply put, Jack Tretton was one of the major reasons why Playstation had been the dominant console brand in the late 90’s and 2000’s, not to mention being the face of Playstation period. This does come at a time when the Playstation 4 is doing well, with a lot of 3rd party support coming down the pike, as of this writing, no replacement has been announced, but we’ll update as we get more information.
