Xbox App released for Android and iOS – E3 2016

Written by James T. George

Early on Monday morning, before the onslaught of day 1 news at E3, Microsoft released its full-featured Xbox App for both Android and iOS devices.

This app will replace the company’s existing Xbox One Smartglass app, and instead brings the full featured app from the Windows 10 marketplace onto the other platforms. Users of Windows 10 and Windows phones will recognize the software right away as a more feature-rich version of their smart glass counterparts. Conceptually, this could mean that all platforms – Windows or otherwise – will see feature parity from this point onward, which is a goal Microsoft seems excited to push with their Universal Windows Platform initiative.

It is important to note that this could also pave the way for game streaming on mobile devices via a future update. Right now, only Windows 10 PC’s support the feature, but it is accomplished through the Xbox App. Stay tuned for more details.

You can download the apps in the Google Play or iTunes app stores.
