Rare announces Sea of Thieves [Video]

Written by Austin Griffith

First person gameplay as we traverse through a lush, beautiful, and colorful forest: this is Rare’s new open world exploration game. A colorful multiplayer romp through a pirates life. Man the poopdeck, plunder your chests, and make yer maties walk the plank.

Whatever this is, I need it.

Rare is bringing fans an open world Pirate adventure, the likes of which have never been seen.

Yo-ho-ho, friends.

The gameplay we saw had us and our maties (that’s what we call friends in the pirate realm) swashbuckling through the seven seas. It looked like you’ll actually be raising the sails and tending to the ship.

That is, of course, when you’re not fighting off undead pirate skeletons and stealing their treasures. It looks like Rare has taken what fans loved about Assassin’s Creed 4 and other open-world games and thrown it all together with their classic lovable charm.

This is exciting, because this is what I’ve always wanted. More specifically, this is along the lines of what I wanted with Destiny: a true open world, shared space experience for more than three people.
