Peter Hines and Nick Konkle of Bethesda Softworks have been speaking with Microsoft to get the requirement for Elder Scrolls Online players to be Xbox Live Gold members as well, removed. Bethesda recently announced that Elder Scrolls would be based on a monthly subscription model, requiring players to pay $15 monthly to play ESO.
Hines explained that players pay for Xbox Live in order to play their games online and why would you need to pay Xbox Live to play online when you’re paying ESO to play online? Hines told OXM at Gamescom,
“We have been in talks with Microsoft about that very thing, and seeing whether or not there’s any room to change their minds about that, for folks who are only playing The Elder Scrolls Online and don’t want to pay for an Xbox Live Gold subscription, just to pay for the Elder Scrolls Online.”
Nick Konkle told OXM at Gamescom, that the reason for going with the monthly subscription model, was to allow players the same access to the available content, to continue to maintain their team and to be able to continue to pump out more quality content for players.
As of right now, Sony has confirmed that players will have to pay for PSN and Elder Scrolls Online.
