Bethesda Further Details Fallout 4 @ E3 // E3 2015

Written by James T. George

Bethesda closed their E3 2015 show with a more detailed look at Fallout 4 and took special time to highlight it’s visuals.

We first got a look at the character creator, which allows you to customize the couple featured at the opening of the game. You can fully tailor both the male and female, which will then allow the game to auto-generate the baby to match. You will be asked to choose which of the two characters you want for the rest of the game, and then venture out to the pre-disaster world.

After witnessing the first atomic blast, the scene jumps ahead 200 years later when you emerge. Once again, the game is set in a huge open-world wasteland, giving the player incredible freedom. This time around, we’re exploring Boston. The demo continues, showcasing the early interactions with characters outside the vault.. Dynamic conversations are also part of the experience, allowing players to talk to NPCs, walk away, or even kill them.

The next demonstration is how the new dog mechanic plays into the game. Once meeting the animal, you can give it movement commands, and even instruct it to pick up items. He becomes part of your tool set in combat, as well as the V.A.T.S. combat system returning from the previous game. You can still slow down combat and target specific points on an enemy, and your dog will stay in combat along side you.

We then received a very beautiful looking montage of the wastelands in and around Boston, followed by a look at the Pip Boy, which allows you to manage your inventory and stats, as well as play some games you may find. It also plays music in the game world.

Bethesda then showcased a real-world Pip Boy that will ship with the collector’s edition. It works with a cell phone, and can communicate via a second-screen app with the game on any platform giving you full access to the tool while you play the game.

Following a brief announcement about a new mobile game, the demonstration continued showcasing a robust base building mechanic, weapon customization mechanic, and armor customization mechanic. All three utilize the hundreds of items you can acquire in the game, and offer seemingly endless possibilities in customization.

Finally we got a release date. Fallout 4 is releasing November 10, 2015.
